Overview

Hetzner Online is a German hosting company offering Hetzner Cloud virtual servers with an API, CLI and Terraform provider, dedicated servers sold through a server auction and standard lines, Storage Boxes for backup via SFTP, Samba, WebDAV and BorgBackup, S3-compatible object storage, load balancers, private networks and managed web hosting. According to its site, cloud servers are available in Germany, Finland, the United States and Singapore, with the company's own data-center parks in Falkenstein, Nuremberg and Helsinki.

It is popular with developers, self-hosters and small companies for the ratio of resources to price and for straightforward tooling: the Cloud console and hcloud CLI create servers in seconds, and Storage Boxes are a common Borg or restic target.

The managed-service catalogue is deliberately small (no managed databases or serverless), regions are few, and account verification can be strict for new customers.

  • Storage Boxes reachable over SFTP, Samba, WebDAV and Borg
  • S3-compatible object storage
  • Load balancers, floating IPs, private networks and firewalls
