Overview

Odoo is a modular suite of business applications from Odoo S.A., formerly known as OpenERP and TinyERP. A Python and PostgreSQL server hosts apps for CRM, sales, invoicing and accounting, inventory and manufacturing, project management, HR, e-commerce and website building, all sharing one data model and an extensible ORM. The Community edition is open source under LGPL-3.0 and can be self-hosted; the Enterprise edition adds proprietary modules under the Odoo Enterprise Edition License and is sold by subscription, either hosted on Odoo Online, on Odoo.sh, or on-premises. Thousands of third-party modules are published on the Odoo Apps store and by the OCA community. It fits small and mid-sized companies wanting an integrated system they can customise. Major versions ship yearly and migrations between them take effort, community-edition accounting is thinner than enterprise, and customisation requires Python developers.

Capabilities

  • CRM, quotations, invoicing and accounting
  • Inventory, purchasing and manufacturing
  • Website, e-commerce and point of sale
  • Project, timesheet and HR applications
  • Python ORM and module framework for customisation
  • XML-RPC/JSON-RPC external API
  • Self-hosted or hosted deployment

Typical workflows

  1. Run CRM and invoicing for a small firm on a self-hosted community instance
