Cohere
by Cohere Inc. · Platform · also known as Cohere Platform, Command models, Cohere Embed, Cohere Rerank
Enterprise-focused model provider with Command generation, Embed and Rerank retrieval models, Aya multilingual research models, the North agent platform and private or dedicated deployment options
Overview
Cohere is a Toronto-based model provider oriented toward enterprise deployments. Its model lineup comprises Command for generation and agents, Embed for semantic representations, Rerank for retrieval reordering, Transcribe for speech, Parse for documents, a translation model and the Aya family from its multilingual research program. The v2 API exposes chat, embed and rerank endpoints with SDKs in several languages, and documentation is also served as Markdown and through an MCP server for coding assistants.
What distinguishes Cohere is the deployment menu: a hosted API with trial keys for evaluation and pay-as-you-go production keys, Model Vault for dedicated isolated inference priced per instance, and Private Deployments on-premises or in a customer's VPC, alongside availability on major clouds. North is its agentic platform for knowledge work that customers can deploy themselves, and Compass covers enterprise search. Target sectors are finance, public sector, telecom and healthcare. For individual developers Cohere's Embed and Rerank models are the most commonly used pieces; its generation models compete with larger labs mainly on deployment flexibility and data-residency control rather than on consumer reach.
Editorial note on uncertainty. SDK language list is based on the Python repository and documentation navigation; other official SDKs may exist.
Capabilities
- Command generation models with tool use
- Embed models for text and multimodal retrieval
- Rerank models for relevance reordering
- Transcribe, Parse and translation models
