Uptime Kuma

Self-hosted uptime monitor with HTTP, TCP, DNS, ping and keyword checks, many notification channels and public status pages
Overview
Uptime Kuma is an open-source, self-hosted availability monitor written in Node.js and released under the MIT license by Louis Lam. From a web interface you define monitors, such as HTTP(S) with status or keyword checks, TCP ports, ping, DNS records, Docker containers, push heartbeats and database connections, set intervals and retries, and receive alerts through a long list of notification providers including email, Slack, Discord, Telegram, Pushover and webhooks. Public status pages with incident notes can be published per group of monitors.
It is normally run as a single Docker container with a persisted data volume (SQLite by default, MariaDB optional) and suits individuals and small teams that want a black-box view of their services without operating a metrics stack. It does not collect internal metrics or logs, has no multi-user tenancy beyond basic accounts, and a single instance monitors from one vantage point.
Capabilities
- HTTP(S), keyword, JSON-query, TCP, ping, DNS and Docker container monitors
- Push monitors for cron jobs and heartbeats
- Dozens of notification integrations
- Public status pages with incident posts
- Certificate expiry tracking and maintenance windows
- Backup and import of configuration
Typical workflows
- Monitor a set of self-hosted sites and get alerts in a chat channel
- Publish a status page for users of a small service
- Detect expiring TLS certificates
Strengths
- Installs in one container with minimal configuration
- Wide notification support
- MIT licensed with an active community
Limitations
- Black-box checks only; no metrics or log collection
- Single vantage point per instance
- Limited role and tenancy model
Prerequisites
- Docker or a Node.js runtime
- Persistent volume for the database
Who it is for
- Self-hosters and homelab operators
- Small teams needing status pages
Alternatives & comparison
Prometheus with the blackbox exporter and Grafana can reproduce availability checks within a full metrics stack, at the cost of more components; Uptime Kuma delivers the common cases, including status pages, in one container.
