Infisical
by Infisical Inc. · Platform
Secrets, certificate and privileged-access management platform with an MIT-licensed core, available as a hosted service or self-hosted deployment
Overview
Infisical is a secrets management platform from Infisical Inc. It stores application secrets per project and environment, syncs them to targets such as Kubernetes, GitHub Actions, Vercel and cloud secret stores, and injects them into local processes with a CLI (infisical run) or SDKs. The product has grown to include dynamic secrets, secret rotation and scanning, a certificate management (PKI) component, an SSH certificate authority and session-recorded privileged access.
The repository is licensed under MIT except for code under the ee directory, which carries an enterprise license, so the core is open source and self-hostable with Docker or Helm while advanced features are paid. A hosted cloud edition with a free tier removes the operational burden.
It is often chosen by small teams that find Vault heavy and want a web UI, environment-based organization and simple CI integration. Its enterprise features and audit controls are newer than Vault's, and self-hosting requires PostgreSQL and Redis.
Capabilities
- Project and environment scoped secrets with versioning and access controls
- CLI, SDKs and agent for injecting secrets into processes and files
- Integrations syncing secrets to Kubernetes, CI systems and cloud secret stores
- Dynamic secrets and rotation
- Certificate management and SSH certificate authority
- Secret scanning for leaked credentials
Typical workflows
- Replace .env files across dev, staging and production
- Sync secrets to GitHub Actions and Kubernetes
- Issue short-lived SSH certificates to engineers
Strengths
- MIT-licensed core with a web UI
- Hosted free tier or self-hosted deployment
- Broad set of sync integrations
Limitations
- Enterprise features live under a separate license
- Self-hosting needs PostgreSQL and Redis
- Younger ecosystem than Vault
Prerequisites
- Infisical Cloud account or Docker/Helm host with PostgreSQL and Redis
Who it is for
- Development teams managing environment secrets
- Platform teams seeking a lighter Vault alternative
Alternatives & comparison
Vault is the more established server with deeper dynamic-credential and PKI engines but a source-available license and more operational weight. SOPS is a serverless, file-based approach. Bitwarden Secrets Manager overlaps on machine secrets for teams already using Bitwarden.
