Overview

Ghostfolio is an open-source portfolio and wealth tracker in the portfolio management category. Users record transactions across brokerage accounts and asset classes (stocks, ETFs, bonds, crypto, commodities and cash), and the app computes holdings, performance, allocation by sector, region and currency, dividends, fees and fire-related projections. It is a TypeScript application (Angular front end, NestJS back end, PostgreSQL and Redis) distributed as a Docker image for self-hosting, and the same team runs a hosted instance with a paid Premium tier that adds analysis features. Market prices come from public data providers configured by the operator. It records activities manually or via CSV import rather than through broker connections, so keeping data current takes discipline, and the AGPL license applies to anyone redistributing modified versions as a service.

Capabilities

  • Multi-account, multi-currency transaction ledger
  • Performance, allocation and dividend analysis
  • CSV import and export of activities
  • Self-hosted deployment with Docker Compose
  • Public portfolio sharing and read-only access
  • REST API with access tokens

Typical workflows

  1. Run the Docker image on a home server and import brokerage CSV exports
  2. Track a multi-currency portfolio alongside crypto holdings

Strengths

  • Self-hostable with full data ownership
  • AGPL-3.0 open source
  • Covers many asset classes in one ledger

Limitations

  • No automatic brokerage synchronization; entries are manual or CSV
  • Price coverage depends on configured data providers
  • Premium analytics are reserved to the hosted paid tier or own setup

Prerequisites

  • Docker host with PostgreSQL and Redis for self-hosting, or an account on the hosted service

Who it is for

  • Self-hosting enthusiasts tracking personal wealth
  • Investors wanting a broker-independent ledger
